Hey folks,

Has anybody tried a tincture (sublingually) such as the one sold at www.ethnobotanicals.com ?

I have made my own from dried leaves, with excellent results. The rear of the tongue is way better for absorption than sublingual. A teaspoon of warm honey is great for diluting tinc, and eliminates much of the burn. Homemade tinc recipes abound on the net; it is simple and inexpensive to make. I have never purchased tinc from a vendor.

Results from using tinc are far superior to smoking, in my opinion.

I have used commercial tinctures, but making the tincture yourself will yield about the same results, at a far lower price. There is a bit of time and effort involved though. The tincture experience is much milder than smoking, but lasts longer. I prefer to chew extract enhanced leaf myself when taking Salvia sublingually, as tincture can burn quite a bit. For example, if you chew 1 gram of 20X, that would be equivelent to chewing 20 grams of raw leaf, which would be equivelent to several dropperfulls worth of tincture (although the alcohol base does help with absorbtion). This is really only cost effective if you are making your own extract enhanced leaf though, otherwise it can be kind of expensive.

        OK. Thanks a lot, guys.

Could someone comment on subjective qualities noted during a tincture experience? What's it like?

Here is a quickie recipe for making small amounts, along with some fairly comprehensive experience reports. The only thing I don' t like is that this person advocates using a microwave to reduce the alcohol content. My advice: use a very low stovetop temperature setting, with the alcohol/tinc in a water bath, or better yet just place the batch in a bowl in front of a small fan until it reduces to the desired consistency.

Reducing grain alcohol tinc in a microwave might possibly create a vapor bomb, especially if one is a tad careless. Not worth the risk (opinion).

Anyway the experience reports are certainly worth looking at.

            Thanks a lot.

            Yeah, no vapor-bombs.

Traditionally, salvia leaves were chewed in quids and absorbed through the oral mucosa - that's much more similar to the tincture administration than smoking, which was not observed until Americans started doing it.

I'm sure salvia was smoked prior to the rise and fall of America.

                Just look at the leaves....
how could anyone not want to smoke those?!?!

                O.O

Columbus apparently learned the art of smoking, by observing the natives around the carribean, rolling up leaves and smoking them thru the nostril. He brought back this Tobacco with him to Europe.

                  Oh, cool!

I've put some tincture on a bit of Nicotiana Rustica ('wild tobacco'), letting the alcohol evaporate. Presumably this will have left the constituents on the leaf for some quality quidding.

I've not tried it yet, but will report back when I do.

                  Cool Columbus trivia, cinnamon..

20X SD resin can also be redissolved into ethanol to make a tincture of it. The Resin is more stable to store then is the tincture. 1g 20X would be like 20ml of regular SD tincture.
